Who are Hypervolt and what’s 3.0?

Published

Hypervolt are a UK start-up founded in early 2021 by Flavian Alexandru, Razvan Vasiliu and Benjamin Edwards.

They quickly became one of the fastest growing companies of all time and in just 10 months from launch the second largest manufacturer of smart home EV Chargers in the UK.

They have been manufacturing at their factory in Rainham, Essex since inception and are solely focused on offering a single-phase EV charging solution.

Their offering, the Hypervolt3.0 is a tethered charger coming in 5, 7.5 or 10 metre lead length and is available in 3 colours.

Their EV chargers are an end-to-end in-house product, with the bulk of their product R&D also taking place in their Rainham factory.

Hypervolt have been selling direct to approved installers only. This has allowed them to offer their premium product at a competitive price point, by-passing third party re-sellers, as well as controlling who installs and commissions their product.

This is something some manufacturers seem unconcerned about, with their focus on shifting more units at any cost.

I am told there are trials with 1 wholesaler in place so it will be interesting to see how this develops their positioning and pricing long-term.

What sets this EV charger apart from the rest and why should I invest in one?

  • British designed and manufactured
  • 3-year warranty with option to extend to 5 years
  • Automated load management
  • LED status light on front and charge stage indication LED around the side which are fully customisable
  • Smart home integration with Amazon Alexa
  • Optimal for Solar charging
  • Industry leading technical support helpline – open 7 days a week (I share my experience with this below)
  • The Hypervolt3.0 is a very sleek looking EV charger there is no doubt about it. Especially when compared to other tethered chargers in the market that tend to look like a hosepipe reel

My experience of Hypervolt technical department

Faultless.

The charger feels well thought out and like a solid product. It’s easy to install and commission using their app and users find the app intuitive.

Whenever I install a Hypervolt3.0 as part of the commissioning I call the technical department to verify the load management is active and registering correctly – each time the phone is answered quickly and by someone who answers my query effectively.

It’s worth noting that some manufacturers put the first level technical support responsibility onto the installer – which can leave you in limbo if you cannot get hold of them which I am not a big fan of.
