Founded in 2021, Simpson & Partners were the original co-founders of the EV charger firm Anderson EV in 2016 – Mandy & David Simpson.
Based in the Cotswolds, Simpson & Partners serve a truly unique EV charger offering that T3 magazine were quoted as saying “the most stylish way to charge” and here’s why they likely said that:
With a choice of 107 colour combinations selectable from their online configurator – this is undoubtedly the widest choice available to consumers by a long way.
They’re able to offer this with either an aluminium or a sustainable Accoya wood lid and the stylish durable aluminium frame is available in a plethora of shades and colours – meaning there’s a configuration to suit most tastes and external home finishes.
This is especially useful when either a solid white, black or grey finish will look hideous, think a modern Scandinavian style home with contrasting render and cladding for instance. The last thing you want is a black or white box fitted on the front of it.
No other charger manufacturer gets close to the level of choice and the finish on the metal housing is light years ahead of the polymer & PVC moulded covers which seem to be the industry norm.
T3 reporter Spencer Hart states “most look like they belong in the white goods section in Currys” which isn’t too far off the mark considering how aesthetically unpleasing some manufacturer designs are.
I’m not mentioning any names, but we’ve all seen that brand of tethered EV chargers which look like hose pipe reels and are hideous.
All Simpson & Partners EV chargers are designed and manufactured in Great Britain from a purpose built 5000 sq metre facility located in the Costwolds, which opened in the summer of 2022.
The company started as a family business and is still family owned and managed.
With single phase and 3 phase EV options Simpson & Partners aren’t limited to the single phase domestic sector.
All EV chargers in their range have PEN fault protection integrated so no need for an earth rod.
Not just any PEN fault protection though – they claim to have an industry leading advanced PEN fault protection in all their EV chargers.
I reached out to founder – David Simpson for some clarification on what this technology was and the implications for end users.
David came back to me via email in less than 24 hours – not many founders are available to reach out to AND get a personal reply within 1 working day. Impressive, right?
Here’s what he said.
“The S1 processor is a Logic Gateway which controls all the charging safety operations in the EV charger.
The S1 runs in parallel to a traditional microprocessor as is used in many other EV Chargers form other manufacturers.
The reason we use a logic gateway is quite simple… it works much faster than a traditional microprocessor, checking and executing electrical safety commands in microseconds not milliseconds.
This design is unique, and we believe offers the best safety standards in the industry.
We have a patent pending for the advanced PEN protection system that is incorporated within our products.
Additionally, our EV chargers are measuring and validating more parameters than is mandated.
For example, we measure the voltage on the house side of the relays and current and voltage on the vehicle side.
This is done on L1, L2, L3, N and Earth. No other EV charger as far as we aware of takes this high specification approach to measurement and fault monitoring.
As I am sure you are aware our three Phase units can be used single Phase whilst maintaining their Pen protection.
This is achieved without delivering any small electric tingle to the end-user (like some EV chargers have been noted to do) and is achieved without the use of a star point (patented by Matt-e).
Give me a call if you have further questions.
More than happy to talk through the finer details with you on the phone.”
That ladies and gentlemen is how a Great British company should operate.
